City of La Salle seeks Parks/Streets Department Laborer

The City of La Salle has an immediate opening for a Park/Street Department Laborer. This position will work under the direct supervision of the Park Director and the Street Department Foreman.

The Park/Street Laborer is responsible for the appearance and maintenance of the City Parks, which includes grass cutting, weed control, baseball field preparation, pool maintenance and chemical feed, installing and repairing park structures and equipment, and park shelter maintenance. This position will also provide street-related services to residents in all weather conditions, such as winter snow removal, filling potholes, and yard waste collection. The position will require 24 hour on call service along with rotating phone coverage as applicable.

The Park & Rec laborer hours will be from Monday – Friday 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Pool and park maintenance may require additional overtime hours as determined by management. The position will assume all street labor hours and responsibilities during times when the park laborer is not needed.

Qualifications Required

· Valid Commercial Drivers License from the State of Illinois

· Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, and

· Four (4) years of experience relating to construction, maintenance, or landscape management

· Experience in maintaining sports fields and park facilities

· Experience operating and maintaining gas powered equipment and machinery used in sports field and park facilities maintenance

· Experience in any facet of public works is preferable

· Considerable knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities

· Skill in operation of some of the listed tools and equipment

· Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time

· Ability to work safely

· Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public

· Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions
